Bangladesh at the Top of the ICC Cricket ODI World Cup Super League 2020-22
Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 103 runs in the second ODI to secure a historic series win. This is the first time Tamimra has beaten Sri Lanka in a bilateral ODI series. However, not only ensuring the series win, this victory helped Bangladesh to rise to the top of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-22 points table. They left behind England, Pakistan, and Australia.
Bangladesh collected 10 points in the first ODI match of the series. They were at number four to take 40 points in that match. Bangladesh took the number one spot by collecting 10 more points from the second ODI match. Bangladesh has 50 points in 5 matches with 5 wins. England, Pakistan, and Australia have 40 points each. They are ranked second, third and fourth in terms of net run rate.
New Zealand, Afghanistan, and the West Indies have 30 points in their pockets. They are ranked fifth, sixth, and seventh in the rankings for run-rate manipulation. India is at number eight with 29 points from six matches.
It is to be noted that the ICC has started the Cricket World Cup Super League in the style of Test Championship. The difference is that the Test Championship is being considered as the Test World Cup. And this new Super League will decide who will qualify directly for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. As the host country, however, the points list of the Super League will not be of much importance to India.
