MediaTek launch Dimensity 720 5G chipset for mid-range smartphones
MediaTek has released several chipsets in the Dimensty 5G SoC lineup. Today the company announced another chipset aimed at mid-range smartphones – the MediaTek Dimensity 720 5G.
The chipset has slots just below the Dimensity 800 and the flagship chipset in the Dimensity 1000 and 1000+ lines. It looks like MediaTek doesn’t want to leave a single stone unturned and launch a chipset for every possible price range, similar to Qualcomm.
MediaTek Launch Dimensity 720 New Chipset for Mid-range Smartphones. The MediaTek Dimensity 720 5G is manufactured using TSMC with a 7nm process. It comes with a built-in 5G modem that supports 2CC carrier aggregation, VoNR, 5G / 4G SIM dual standby, and 5G sub-6GHz.
It also features MediaTek 5G UltraSave technology, which uses network and content intelligence to control modem behavior in real-time, further extending battery life.
The chipset includes two ARM large Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2GHz in an octa-core processor that the company claims to improve application performance for smoother user experience. It also consists of an ARM Mali G57 GPU, up to 12GB of fast LPDDR4X memory, and UFS 2.2 storage for fast read / write speeds.
This new Somens Dimensity 720 supports 90Hz high frame rate displays along with advanced video streaming capabilities such as MiraVision HDR10 + with dynamic range override support.
In terms of camera configuration, it supports up to a 64MP single sensor or a dual-camera setup consisting of 20MP and 16MP sensors. It includes several AI-related features that run on the integrated MediaTek APU.
MediaTek Dimensity 720 Features
To minimize the power consumption of always-on voice assistants, the company has included a feature called Voice Wakeup (VoW). It also supports dual-microphone noise cancellation so that the voice assistant can hear the sound more clearly.
With the release of the Dimensity 800-series and Dimensity 1000-series, the company has focused on gaming as well, which does not seem to be the case for this Dimensity 720. The focus of this new chipset seems to be global support for 5G below 6 GHz.
The company has confirmed that the MediaTek Dimensity 720 chipset will be used for mid-range smartphones in regions such as North America, Europe, and Asia. However, the company did not provide any timeline for the launch of devices powered by this SoC.
