Najeeb Tarakai Died in a Road Accident
Afghanistan opener Najeeb Tarakai, who was injured in a road accident, has died today. He was 29 years old. The Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed the news of his death in a tweet today. They also expressed their grief.
In a tweet, they wrote, “ACB and Afghanistan cricket-loving nation mourns the heartbreaking and painful loss of NajeebTarakai, 29, his aggressive opening batsman and a very handsome man, who lost his life in a traffic accident, to the surprise of all of us!” May Allah have mercy on him. ‘
Tarakai, 29, was seriously injured in a car crash in the Afghan city of Jalalabad on Friday night. He was rushed to a hospital. According to local media reports, the right-handed batsman suffered a head injury. He was only in a coma for about 2-3 days.
Later, the Afghanistan Cricket Board was considering sending him to a better hospital in Kabul or abroad. But the ACB could not take action as the situation did not improve even after one of his important operations.
Tarakai has played one ODI and 12 T20I matches for Afghanistan. The right-handed batsman scored 256 runs at an average of 21 in the opening over of the T20. The last of which was on the soil of Bangladesh last September.
