South African Government Suspended all Cricket Activities
Cricket in South Africa may be banned this time due to government intervention However, according to ICC rules, a country’s cricket will not have any interference from the government of that country. But the South African government has suspended all cricket activities in their country in defiance of the ICC rules.
A lot has happened on the South African board in the last month. The chief executive has been sacked following the resignation of the board chairman. Although there was talk of reorganizing the board, the entire control of the board has gone to the government.
According to the government, since December last year, the board officials have ‘abused their power and position’ and that is why the government has taken such a decision. The government has suspended all cricket activities as supporters, spectators, and fans fear the country’s confidence and love for cricket will wane.
Cricket history, meanwhile, has been banned in the past due to government interference. Another African team, Zimbabwe, was also banned for the same reason that prevented the country from playing in the World Twenty20 qualifiers.
