What Does the Liability of Car Insurance Consist of?

Selecting the ideal liability of car insurance isn’t as easy as deciding on the flavor of your next ice cream. It is one of the most important decisions for your safety, therefore, you must evaluate the pros and cons that each policy offers for you and your vehicle.

In some counties in the United States, drivers are required by law to purchase liability insurance. With this, you can respond in the event that a third party, either the co-pilot or the other driver, is injured after an accident. This insurance makes you legally responsible and is usually not that expensive.

What Does Liability Car Insurance Cover?

  • Pay the damages on behalf of the owner. After the accident, this insurance is responsible for covering the costs for damages on your behalf.
  • Medical expenses of the other driver. When the other driver is injured, this insurance is responsible for covering his medical expenses, as long as you are declared responsible for the accident. If so, and if you are injured, you have to bear your own medical expenses.

Minimum Requirements that Civil Liability Insurance Must Meet

Within each county, you may find different requirements for the liability insurance you select. Among the most common are:

  • Coverage for bodily injury per person: It is the one that supports the injuries of the other person. Some insurances have coverage up to $25,000
  • Accident injury coverage: It covers any injury resulting from an accident and can reach coverage of up to $50,000.
  • Property damage: Supports material damage caused by your car during an accident. You can get up to $25,000 in property damage coverage.
  • Additional coverage. Additional uninsured motorist insurance is required.

The Costs of Liability Car Insurance

This insurance is exclusively to support you in case the other driver is injured after an accident. But the cost depends on some factors like:

  • driver’s age
  • Make and model of the car
  • City or county where the accident was

It is important to know that liability insurance is not responsible for covering uninsured drivers. For this, you will have to look for another type of protection. Nor can it be held responsible when the vehicle is damaged by natural disasters or is stolen.
