Malignant Movie Plot
The plot of Malignant has been kept under wraps, as have any possible connections to other Wan films. However, we do know that Malignant is an R-rated horror film that pays homage to the Giallo slasher murder mystery genre popular in Italy. It is rated R for “heavy horror violence, gore, and language.”
While Wan is best known for launching the bloodthirsty Saw franchise, the majority of his horror films have been sparsely gory, so it sounds as though he’s got something special in store for horror fans here.
Malignant Movie Release Date
Wan announced on Instagram in January that Malignant would open in theaters and on HBO Max on September 10th, 2021. Additionally, he shared an ominous new image from the film.
The image depicts a gloved hand holding a golden-winged knife. It is unknown what purpose this knife serves or how it will factor into a malignant movie plot (which we still know nothing about but do know Wallis is the lead).
While Wan did not elaborate on the plot or provide an explanation for the knife, he did provide a brief caption about his upcoming film.
“I finally wrapped it up last week,” he revealed. This was supposed to be the ‘mini-horror thriller’ I write in between the big ones, but the pandemic pushed it into the big ones.”
I’m ecstatic for this film, Wan continued. I’m at a loss for words. I wanted to create something unique and genre-bending, distinct from my previous work but still evocative of the horror/thrillers I grew up watching. Additional information will be forthcoming. Thus, Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled Malignant for release on September 10, 2021.
