What is NFC Technology and How to Use It

This technology was originally developed in 1994 by Nokia and Philips as an alternative to Bluetooth. The idea was to create a short-range wireless communication protocol with lower power consumption than Bluetooth. Today, more and more smartphones are equipped with it. In this article, we will see what NFC is, how it works, and some of its uses.

What is NFC?

Near Field Communication or NFC ( Near Field Communication ), is a set of standards for smartphones, tablets, and other devices. It makes it possible to establish radio communication between them by touching them or bringing them closer. The technology operates at 13.56 MHz and is capable of transferring data over short distances of up to 10 cm (4 inches).

NFC has been around since 2003 when it was first developed. It was originally used in credit cards to securely store information such as payments and credit limits. Today, it can be found in many types of everyday devices, such as cell phones and contactless smart cards.

NFC is still widely considered Bluetooth’s less popular sibling. Indeed, the transmission range is much smaller for NFC. Also, it is not compatible with all Bluetooth-enabled devices such as headsets or speakers.

What is NFC Technology used for?

The most common use of NFC is for mobile payments, such as Apple Pay and Google Wallet. When you press your phone against a scanner, the device sends an NFC signal and identifies what product it is and where it is. You can then shop without digging through a paper receipt.

NFC is a technology that lets you make contactless payments and share data with other NFC-enabled devices or cards. NFC is used in mobile payments, public transport ticketing and the Internet of Things. It can also be used for other things like sharing photos, videos, web pages, music, digital business cards, connecting to home Wi-Fi networks, unlocking doors with your phone And much more.

How to use NFC with your phone?

There are two ways to use NFC on an Android phone: tap and pay and using NFC tags or NFC tags.

Tap and pay

Tap and pay allow your phone to make contactless payments at point-of-sale terminals that support NFC payments. To use NFC in this way, you must have a device with the technology installed. You can purchase an NFC-enabled phone that comes with the technology already installed. If your phone does not have NFC capability, you can install an app on your phone that will enable this feature. There are many apps available, but one of the most popular is Google Pay.

Once you have downloaded this application, all you have to do is sign in with your Google account. All your payment information will then be saved there so that you do not have to enter it each time when making a purchase.

You must have a compatible card installed on your phone and an app such as Google Pay, Apple Pay, or Samsung Pay. The card can be a debit card or a credit card issued by one of the following banks: American Express, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. To pay, simply bring your phone closer to the terminal.

NFC Tag or NFC Tags

NFC tags connect two Android devices close to each other (usually less than 10 cm). You can use NFC tags or NFC tags for a variety of things such as saving a file on one device and then playing it on another device. You can use it to do anything NFC allows.
