Blue Eye Samurai takes place in Japan in the 17th century during the Edo period. The main character, Mizu, is a skilled swordswoman with beautiful blue eyes who goes on a secret quest to get revenge.
She wants to get rid of the four rare white men in Japan, one of whom might be her own father and whom she sees as the cause of her pain.
Because of social norms, Mizu has to hide the fact that she is a woman while managing a world full of unexpected friendships and betrayals.
Mizu is the main character of Blue Eye Samurai. She is a “mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise seeking the deliverance of revenge.”
Amber Noizumi and Michael Green are making Blue Eye Samurai. They are both writing the show and are the executive producers.
Green has written about Logan and Blade Runner 2049 before. Another senior producer job is being given to Erwin Stoff, and Jane Wu will be in charge of overseeing the director and producer.
Blue Eye Samurai Cast
Ringo, played by Masi Oka (Heroes), is an eager and devoted soba maker who quits his job to work as an apprentice with Mizu and help her on her quest for payback. Even though he was born without hands, he wants to be a great warrior.
Darren Barnet (Never Have I Ever) plays Taigen, a chiseled samurai who is admired as a fighter who has never lost until Mizu beats him in his dojo and breaks up his engagement to Akemi. He says he will kill Mizu to repair his honor, but the two become friends, which isn’t easy.
Brenda Song (Amphibia) plays Akemi, the beautiful and driven daughter of Lord Daichi of the Tokonobu clan. Akemi wants to be in charge of her own life. After her plans to marry Taigen fall through, she hits the open road.
George Takei (Star Trek) plays Seki, Akemi’s kind and smart servant who raised her for many years.
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (The Last Emperor) plays Master Eiji, a famous swordsmith known as “The Swordmaker.” He learned how to make scary blades out of fire after losing his sight in a fire. The Swordmaker takes Mizu in and trains her to make swords. He acts like a father to her.
Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat) plays Heiji Shindo, a Western dealer who deals in guns, opium, and flesh. He is Abijah Fowler’s partner from the West. He and Fowler are making plans to take over the Shogunate.
Abijah Fowler, Mizu’s possible father and main target, is played by Kenneth Branagh (A Haunting in Venice). He is an illegal Irish businessman who is violent and has bad intentions. He wants to kill the Shogun and let Western ideas into Japan.
