CSK and SRH joined the fight shortly after. Stokes was ultimately acquired by the MS Dhoni-led club for an incredible INR 16.25 crore, which is the third-highest price tag in IPL history.

With Chennai Super Kings, the bidding process started at Rs. 2 crores, but after intense competition, the price rose to almost Rs. 6 crores.

After placing an initial bid of Rs. 7.25 crore, Lucknow Super Giants prevailed and ultimately paid over Rs. 10 crore for the player.

The player was subsequently signed by Lucknow, making him another expensive buy in IPL history and the fourth most expensive player in IPL 2023 as the Caps withdrew from the bidding war after the price hit Rs. 16 crores.
